Chief Executive Officer
James has a long and successful history of
working
with and supporting the development of small and micro businesses
both in the Sydney area and since his relocation to Albury Wodonga
in 2001. As General Manager of the Murray Hume BEC, James was
responsible for offices and staff located in two states and was also
responsible for managing the small business incubator (Enterprise
House) located in Wodonga.
James has had 30 years of experience guiding and working with entrepreneurs through the start-up and development of micro, small and medium enterprises. He has worked with local/state and federal government departments, other Business Enterprise Centres and Industry Training Advisory Boards in areas of strategic planning and identification of small business training needs. James has also had extensive experience in advising on the role of small business in both public sector organisations and in private practice.
James works effectively and responsively with all age groups, people of different ethnic and social backgrounds and educational and management levels. In December 2003, he was awarded the annual Certificate of Appreciation from CRS Australia’s Albury Regional Office for “support, advice and assistance for people with a disability in gaining and maintaining self-employment”. James also successfully completed the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program in 2003.
The challenges of managing a business with offices in two cities in two states was minimised by James’ commitment to effective communication with staff of the organisation. Team communication meetings were instigated on a weekly basis to ensure staff were kept informed of all relevant issues and the weekly sessions also allowed staff the opportunity to raise any concerns they may have had. James willingly takes on the role of mentor to staff members and works with them one-on-one to actively encourage their personal development.
Since relocating from Sydney to Albury Wodonga to commence his role as General Manager in November 2001, James quickly built a strong profile in the local region. James is acknowledged for his expertise and has often been called on by local media outlets to provide comments on relevant issues affecting the business community.
A key factor to his ongoing success in understanding the needs of the small business sector has been James’ development of strategic partnerships and alliances. James regularly attends meetings and events of:
With formal qualifications in marketing, business management and training, James also understands the need to keep his own skills and knowledge up to date and in 2008 he enrolled in a Graduate Diploma in Business Management course at La Trobe University.
Because of his tireless efforts, James is recognised as a leading provider of advice and assistance to new and existing businesses.
